I don’t know about you, but my head is always spinning with conflicting views about what constitutes a healthy diet. However, aside from the importance of eating your veggies, one message always comes through crystal clear: omega-3 fatty acids are vitally important for anyone concerned with their health.
Heart, bone, joint, skin, brain, mood — you name it, omega-3 fatty acids probably help support it. This is because omega-3s are critical for maintaining the health of your cells by providing the lipids needed for healthy cellular membranes. Your cells are the foundation of every part of your body, so omega-3s are needed for your health at the most basic level.
So, then, the question arises — which source? Flaxseed, algae, krill — all of these are sources of omega-3s. But for our money, fish oil is still the ideal choice.
Sure, those tiny red krill pills look like a fantastic deal, but to get the same amount of EPA and DHA as you would get in one daily dose of USANA BiOmega™ fish oil supplement, you’d have to take about five capsules a day. And you’d have to spend over $200 a month!
Uh, no thanks.
Lots of so-called experts will tell you that you can get all the omega-3s you need from a healthy diet. You very plausibly could get enough omega-3s from a serving of wild-caught salmon every day. But then you would run into concerns about toxins. (You don’t want to have your own “sushigate” situation with mercury poisoning. Jeremy Piven was ridiculed non-stop. Say what you will… I do love him in the PBS show Mr. Selfridge, but I digress…)
